Skin Care Professionals Conference

We just had our Skin Care Professionals Conference at SSI on Monday. It was a lot of hard work, but well worth the day of continuing education. We had 14 exhibitors come this year and about 150 participants. Here are a few photos:

Candice and Dr. Mark Taylor our keynote.
He owns Gateway Aesthetics and Laser Center. Just a few tidbits, it is the largest private laser center in the world right here in Salt Lake. He is really amazing, down to earth, an Idaho farm boy and unlike most doctors of his status, his ego can still fit through doorways!

Laser Hair Removal

While the above picture is not me, as I am sure you all noticed and it is not even the area I received laser hair removal, we can pretend I look that good right?
Truth is, I didn't think of telling Maryanne to grab my camera when our laser rep was here and she was zapping away at my underarms. Now, I like to take pride in thinking that I have a high pain tolerancy. I mean, come on, I live with chronic pain every day in every joint in my body. When I got my tattoo- no big deal. really. Well, this pain tolerancy thing has just been wiped out. I am a wimp, at least when it comes to a laser. I was so excited to get it done too, it didn't even cross my mind that I would be cringing in pain. Felt like someone was taking a gigantic quilting needle and jabbing it repeatedly into my armpits (oh, excuse me, that is a bad word in the esthetics world, my underarms.) I did manage to get through 1 treatment and with my blond hair, it will do absolutely nothing. Back to waxing it is...

Interns!

We have an internship program here at SkinScience. After completing the Master Esthetics Course, students can apply for the internship. It is scholarship based, so it is free, and you continue on for 2 more months and receive your instructor verification to receive your instructors license. They help us with so much around the office. They run the spa front desk, assist in administration and shadow instructors. It is a really great program. Being the Director of Education, I am also over the interns as well as the instructors. I did not have any interns for July and August. So, who ran the Spa Front Desk? Yours truly and Maryanne. Besides our other jobs. I am so grateful to have 3 great interns this time around. Especially for our Skin Care Professionals Conference that was Monday. Along with helping us with all kinds of projects around the office, I also realize how old I am getting and out of touch with fashion trends I am. (: Below are a couple pics.

Super Grandma

My mom has managed to skirt around getting her picture taken by my digital camera except for Jenn's wedding below. But that's ok, because who knew google images would have so many images under "super grandma"? Anyway, I really feel like she needs a little tribute. Even though I am not the source of any of her 4, soon to be 5, grandchildren she is a super grandma and I need to tell about it. The past Labor Day weekend my mom went with my sister and her two youngest (1 1/2 & 3 yrs) to San Francisco by amtrak. Yes, AMTRAK. My sister and mom usually do something fun with the youngest kids over Labor Day because Tom takes the older ones to his family camp out. But this year when Anna called my mom and said something like - I think it would be fun to take the little boys for a train ride somewhere like san Francisco - my mom hopped right on board. Me on the other hand when I was called and invited, I politely declined due to money, but really because I am not Super Aunt, or at least now I have been disqualified. Plus in my head I was thinking FRONTRUNNER! HELLO! the new Utah commuter train. I digress. My mom spend 20, yes 20, hours on a train with her grandsons, then walked, carried and pushed them all over San Francisco for 3 days and then spent another 20 hours riding a train back. Never complaining, sitting outside of stores with the boys so that my sister could do some shopping which she never does. The most she said to me was - When I get home I am going to lock myself in my bedroom and fill it with Diet Dr Pepper and chocolate - Now that is a super grandma! I love you mom!

Park City

Chris and I decided we needed a weekend away, so last weekend we went to Park City and had so much fun. It was nice to relax and get away from the city, work, housework that should be done, etc. Saturday night we ate at Zona Rosa's on Main Street, we were able to eat on the balcony that overlooks main street.

After that we went to the Sidecar Bar. Our friend Steve co-owns the place. We had never been so we went to check it out. It is a pretty classy place - a non -smoking establishment so you don't leave smelling like an ash tray and supposedly the best pizza in Park City. We are going to try it next time

Summer Fun

As summer is coming to a close (although the weather doesn't feel like it) I thought I would post some of the fun things we have done, looking back, our summer has been great even if we are too cheap to get a decent air conditioner!

Jenn's Wedding, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
My cousin Jenn got married this past May to Daniel who is fantastic guy. We love them and have a lot of fun hanging out and visiting them, so after 6 years we were happy to see them tie the knot! Jenn asked me to be a bridesmaid and I loved her wedding, it was really classy and beautiful yet laid back at the same time. And how can you not love a bride that asks you to wear a  slimming black dress!?!

We also got time to visit my friend Lizz who got married and had a baby this year. We were roommates and co-workers at the good old UGH during our college days. Time flies and I feel old...
International Esthetics Convention, Las Vegas
My friend/co-worker Maryanne and I went to our first industry tradeshow this past June. It was a lot of fun, we took some great classes and became closer friends after the drive down and back (whew!) The first night we went to Toby Keith's Bar and Grill which is really good and the food is cheap compared to other places on the strip. Here are our pics from the gift shop.
T's Wedding
Chris' little brother Timothy got Married July 31st. It was a really nice wedding and Brianna is a great addition to the family
Leslee's last ball game, for now...
Leslee pitched in her last softball tournament the day after T's wedding. I am still holding out hope that she will play for Snow College next year, but this could have been her last game. (we all know she's good enough, she just hasn't decided if she wants too) Plus check out my father-in-law in shorts! Insiders to the family know this NEVER happens.

First Post

Welcome to our blog. I have decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon. Bear with me as I figure everything out. I figured it was only fair to start my own since I spend so much time on everyone else's. Hopefully Chris and I won't seem too mundane...
